Diversifying the Music Curriculum
The Global Music Academy is a dynamic charity aimed at diversifying music education in the UK. Through engaging hands-on workshops, we bring music educators from around the world to UK schools and educational settings. We work closely with musicians, ethnomusicologists and educators to produce teaching resources to supplement existing curriculums and support schools and communities to access music from beyond the western canon.
Travel the world through music
From Irish folk singing to Arabic instruments, Chinese percussion, Bengali vocals, West African musical traditions, Yiddish folk and beyond, pupils use song and music-making to stoke creativity, curiosity and learn more about the world around them.
Our facilitators incorporate culture, history and geography into their workshops, ensuring a broader understanding about the place and context of music.
Consultancy, events and collaboration
We serve as curators and advisors to help event organisers meet their outreach and impact aims, as well as helping arts and cultural organisations diversify their educational programmes by supplying teachers, musicians, learning spaces and lesson plans.
We’re always happy to talk about how we can best support your work – so please feel free to get in touch with any questions or proposals.
